a CURIOUS cabinet

Sugarama Gallery, Mourilyan Sugar Museum, Mourilyan

This exhibition was the culmination of four year research project and personal journey to research and document the exhibition a CURIOUS Cabinet currently showing at the Sugarama Gallery in Mourilyan.

Following the words written by my great uncle, William Henry, I travelled throughout Queensland visiting places that he wrote from  (Bellenden Plains, Glenora, (FNQ) and Tinnenburra (SWQ)), and wrote about (including Herberton, Charters Towers, Geraldton (Innisfail), Croydon, Gunnawarra, Woodleigh, Meteor Downs, Kirrama, Cashmere and so on). The correspondence written between 1895 and 1906 and resulting exhibition provided a fascinating insight into a way of life that has influenced our own.

This exhibition appealled to people who appreciate art, artists and students, people interested in local history and those interested in other ways of ‘seeing’.
