My Dad George, 2025, Artist book

It was such hard work but my dad never shirked a day.  He established the contemporary banana industry in FNQ, had a timber license and then grew sugar when he was able to get an allocation.

He was a diligent, thoughtful and caring father in a life that was never easy.

Hard working, responsible, honest and committed to furthering the social and economic development of the area my dad’s family were instrumental in bringing the sugar industry to the Tully area.

Their advocacy was visionary, personal, political and practical.

I grew up knowing that I had a strong connection to the country where I was born and that my origins are burst out of the soil that nurtured the crops my father grew.

This artwork was created for the 2025 About Sugar Tully Exhibition which was developed to commerorate 100 years of operation for the Tully Sugar Mill.  The work was exhibited in both Tully and Ingham
